the sunshine state, oh the plants you grow with that

dutchman's pipe, so sexy!

I asked dear Dennison at the Audbon House and Tropical Gardens in Key West, Florida what plant in the gardens should not be missed. He took me to a back fence covered in the Dutchman's Pipe. Oh my! What a sexy plant. Please note the heart shaped leaves, the closed flower which appears so male, and the open flower which just screams, "woman!".  All this to attract the pollinator which I have been told is a butterfly. The wee seed of this plant is also in the shape of a heart. I heart it so much. xoxo

I was out on a moonlit bike ride when i was stopped by the most delicious scent, and found these holy moly glorious characters...

My most darling gardening friends, so fortunately in a 3 block radius of my museum district home in Richmond VA

This first year rigorous beast of a catalpa or paulownia
Has made leaves 2 feet across.
Oh, trash tree of highways, dumps and cities-
Of Monticello and such,
I’ll pet you anytime.
