spring blossoms in the sub tropics

I am really enjoying the process of learning the plants and trees of the sub-tropics of the Florida Keys. The subtropical trees can proceed in similar ways to types in temperate regions, though often with stunning gregariousness. Right now we have the pleasure of the BOMBAX CEIBA (silk cotton tree, Kapok) and the mystery yellow flowering tree in blossom. The flowers precede the leaves, creating a lovely graphic juxtaposition of the flowers to the branches/bark. Ah, flowers first, just like our friends back home, the red bud, apple, cherry, dog wood and magnolias....
